Easy Simple Syrup Recipe

Next time you have a recipe calling for a simple syrup- no need to rush out to the nearest grocery store and hope they have what you are looking for. Chances are good you have everything you need right in your pantry.

What is Simple Syrup

Simple syrup really is just that- simple. The recipe itself is a 1:1 ratio of granulated sugar to water. ex. 1/2 C of sugar to 1/2 C boiling water. Very easy.

This basic simple syrup recipe is easy to make and is a great addition to cocktails, drinks, and any recipe calling for simple syrup.

Variations:

Once you get this recipe down feel free to experiment with making flavored simple syrups by adding vanilla, herbs, fruit, jalapenos, coffee, and more. Use them to enhance cocktails, foods, or drinks.

How to Make Simple Syrup, Stove Top

To make simple syrup on the stove top we will be using the boiling method.

In a saucepan bring 1 Cup of water to a boil.

Remove from heat and carefully add 1 Cup of granulated sugar.

Stir- carefully- until completely dissolved. About 2 or 3 minutes.

Set aside and allow to cool.

Then transfer to a container and place in the refrigerator until ready to use.

This should make about 1.5 Cups of simple syrup.

No Boil, Simple Syrup

A microwave is another way to easily create simple syrup. The big rule with dissolving sugar into water is the cooler the water- the longer it takes to dissolve.

I like to use 4 Cup Pyrex measuring cup for this method. It is big enough for me to microwave, mix, and stir gently without spilling.

In a 4 C. Pyrex measuring cup add 1 C. water and microwave for 30 to 45 seconds.

Add 1 C. granulated sugar to the warm water.

Stir gently until dissolved and allow to cool.

Once cool transfer to a container and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.

So Simple

And just like that you have made homemade simple syrup so much cheaper and faster than buying it in the store!

How Long will Simple Syrup Keep

Simple syrup can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for about a month.

  • Transfer to a container and store in the refrigerator.
