Homemade Salsa-Quick, Easy, Delicious!

This week I am sharing my go-to salsa recipe with you guys. This salsa is a true crowd pleaser and can be thrown together with in minutes!

Homemade salsa does not need to be complicated or expensive.

My homemade salsa uses a mix of fresh ingredients and canned tomatoes varieties to create a restaurant style salsa that can be whipped up at anytime of the year-quickly. Not only is this salsa easy to make- it is packed with flavor!

Ingredients for Homemade Salsa

The ingredients for this homemade salas are easy to come by and there is no cooking involved. However, you will need a blender or a food processor to chop the ingredients.

What you will need:

  • 1 can 14.5 oz Diced Canned Tomatoes
  • 1 can 14.5 oz Diced Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes-This adds a light smokey flavor
  • 1 can 14.5 oz Diced Tomates with Green Chilies
  • 1 Bunch Cilantro
  • 2 Cloves garlic , med size cloves
  • A blender or food processor

How To Make Salsa

Once you have assembled your ingredients- rinsed and dried your cilantro- it’s time to grab your blender- or food processor- and make some salsa!

  1. Our ingredients will be layered into our blender. If you have a food processor, feel free to use that, regardless of the appliance layering the ingredients is key.
  2. In the blender place 2 cloves of garlic in the bottom. Next the cilantro, followed by the cans of tomatoes.
  3. Next pulse the blender or food processor. This helps to break up the garlic and cilantro.  Once that is done, blend at your preferred speed.
  4. Once it is blended well, taste the mixture. It may need a little more cilantro or it might be perfect.
  5. Pulse the mixture one last time before serving. It helps to bring the heavier bits up from the bottom allowing for a more even flavor when serving.
  6. Store in the refrigerator until time to serve.

Recipe Tips:

Over the years I found a few things that ensure the perfect homemade salsa everytime. These recipe tips should help give you a good foundation for your first use of this recipe.

Garlic:

I recommend using medium garlic cloves.

I have used larger cloves once before-It was a little too much garlic for even my garlic loving friends.

Bigger is not always better when it comes to garlic!

Cilantro:

I have found that organic cilantro comes in smaller bundles. Those smaller bundle, in my opinion, are just perfect for this recipe.

When using larger cilantro bundles, consider feeding the cilantro into the blender 1/2 at a time.

Add half, blend, taste.

*You can always add more cilantro but it is impossible to add less. I’ve tried. It wasn’t pretty!

Prep Time:

This salsa recipe does go together in minutes and will be flavorful if you need to serve it right away.

However if you can make it at least 1 hour before serving- it will have even more flavor.

Ideally, make it the night before and store in the fridge for even better flavor.

Organic or other:

One thing I love about this recipe, is that it can be made organically very easily and economically!

Tortilla chip types:

If you are looking to eat a snack or chips and salsa- scoop tortilla chips are the perfect pairing for this salsa.

The scoops hold the salsa instead of allowing it to run. More delicious salsa in your mouth and less on the plate!

Final Thoughts on Homemade Salsa

This salsa is easy and delicious. Due to the tomatoes being canned, it makes it easy to serve all year round- and due to special requests, I make it all year round!

I hope this flavorful salsa becomes a staple for you too!
